2nd annual barbecure event
BARBECURE RIB RIVALRY
Lillie’s Q will be hosting their second annual Barbecure charity event on April 16, 2020. Lillie’s Q Chef and Founder, Charlie McKenna created Barbecure as a means to raise funds for cancer research and positively impact families and communities affected by cancer. Barbecure raises funds through events, specialty product sales and donations. Funds raised are donated to the McKenna family’s foundation, The Katherine McKenna Brother’s Scholarship Fund as well as a rotating charity. Our April event will raise funds for The KMB Fund and The Lynn Sage Foundation.
BENEFITTING THOSE IN NEED
Lillie’s Q Founder and Chef, Charlie McKenna, lost his aunt Katherine to breast cancer in 2000. The McKenna family founded The Katherine McKenna Brothers Scholarship Fund in Katherine’s honor and the Fund keeps her legacy alive by providing women full-ride scholarships to Katherine’s undergraduate alma mater, Brenau University in Gainseville, Georgia. To date, the fund has supported more than 19 women at Brenau University.
The Lynn Sage Scholars program is dedicated to improving outcomes for breast cancer patients through innovative research. Lynn Sage Scholars are awarded $200,000 over two years to pursue ambitious projects in the field of breast cancer. The Lynn Sage Scholars program supports early career scientists at Northwestern and Rush Universities in Chicago. Sisters, Laura & Halee Sage, established The Lynn Sage Foundation in honor of their mother who died from breast cancer at age 39. To date, the Lynn Sage Scholars Program has invested over $1.7 million to improve outcomes for all men and women diagnosed with breast cancer.
Rooted in family and community, Lillie’s Q Chef/Founder, Charlie McKenna, created Barbecure as a means to positively impact and give back to families and communities dealing with the hardships of cancer. Barbecure’s corporate gift-giving program raises funds through events, specialty product sales and donations.
Funds raised from all Barbecure events and donationns will be granted to The Katherine McKenna Brother’s Fund (KMB), started by Chef/Owner Charlie McKenna and his family after his aunt lost her seven-year battle with breast cancer in 2000. The KMB foundation provides scholarship money for female biology students at Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia, Katherine’s undergrad alma mater.
